FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is included in the Hippo Blue Name Stamp Pack?

Each personalised Name Stamp Pack includes everything you need to start labelling your child’s belongings:

  • One personalised clothing name stamp
  • Two ink cartridges (spare cartridge for refill)
  • One easy-to-follow instruction booklet

The stamp arrives ready to use, making it a quick and convenient option for labelling school uniforms, daycare clothing and other everyday items.

Where can I use a personalised Name Stamp?

The Hippo Blue Name Stamp is designed primarily for labelling children’s clothing, including school uniforms, daycare clothes, sportswear and other fabric belongings.

For the clearest result, apply the stamp to a smooth, flat and light-coloured area of the fabric, such as a care label, collar tag or inside seam.

Results may vary on dark, thin or highly textured materials, so we recommend testing the stamp on a hidden area first.

Does the Name Stamp work on all types of fabric?

The clothing Name Stamp works best on smooth, flat and tightly woven fabrics. It may not create a clear imprint on fluffy, knitted or heavily textured materials such as fleece and wool because the uneven surface can prevent the ink from transferring evenly.

For textured clothing, stamp the smoothest area available, such as the care label or inside seam. You can also use Hippo Blue Wrap & Stick Clothing Labels when stamping directly onto the fabric is unsuitable.

What is the size of the Name Stamp and its imprint?

The Hippo Blue Name Stamp measures approximately 60 mm × 32 mm × 55 mm, making it compact and easy to handle, use and store.

The printed name area measures approximately 38 mm wide × 15 mm high, or around 4 cm × 1.5 cm. This provides a clear, readable imprint without taking up too much space on your child’s clothing.

How do I replace the Name Stamp ink cartridge?

Replacing the ink cartridge is quick and easy:

  1. Release the tab at the back of the Name Stamp.
  2. Carefully remove the used ink cartridge.
  3. Remove the protective plastic film from the replacement cartridge.
  4. Insert the new cartridge securely into the stamp.

Test the stamp on a spare piece of fabric or paper before applying it to clothing.

How many characters can I add to my personalised Name Stamp?

You can personalise the Name Stamp with up to 15 characters per line, with a maximum of two lines of text.

Depending on the selected design, you may be able to add your child’s first name, surname, nickname, contact details or a small icon. Shorter text generally creates a larger and clearer imprint.

Is the Name Stamp ink wash-resistant?

Yes. The Name Stamp uses wash-resistant ink designed to remain clear through regular wear and washing. The imprint can last for approximately 50 washes, although durability may vary depending on the fabric, washing method and where the stamp is applied.

For the best result, allow the ink to dry and set for at least 24 hours before washing the item.

Is the Name Stamp ink safe to use on children’s clothing?

The Name Stamp ink is intended for use on fabric and clothing. Once the ink has fully dried and bonded with the material, the labelled item can be used as normal.

Keep the ink cartridge away from the eyes and mouth, do not ingest the ink and supervise children while the stamp is being used. Always allow the imprint to dry completely before your child wears or handles the labelled item.

Can I use a Name Stamp on wool or fleece school jumpers?

Our ink is designed for smooth, flat surfaces like cotton and poly-cotton tags, so it isn't the best fit for wool, fleece or heavily textured knits. On those materials, the imprint can come out patchy.

For jumpers and fleece items, we'd recommend our wash-resistant iron-on labels or Wrap & Stick Clothing Labels instead.

Should I choose a Name Stamp or Name Labels for school uniforms?

Most families use both: the Name Stamp for quick jobs on smooth tags — uniforms, stationery and lunchboxes — and Name Labels for textured items like jumpers and jackets, or anywhere you want a guaranteed permanent hold.

If you're labelling a full school kit for the first time, our comparison guide walks through exactly which option suits each item.

Are name stamps accepted at my child's school or daycare?

Yes — name stamps are a widely accepted labelling method for school and daycare uniforms and belongings across Australia.

If your centre has a specific labelling policy, for example requiring a full legal name rather than a nickname, our two-line, 15-character format comfortably fits both.

How many items can I label with one Name Stamp Pack?

Each Name Stamp Pack includes two ink cartridges, with each cartridge providing up to 1,000 impressions.

That's up to 2,000 impressions in total — enough to label school uniforms, daycare clothing, sports uniforms and everyday essentials for years.
